Christmas is a time for joy, laughter, love and family. Quite often we huddle around the table and pull out that dusty old board game, with some eggnog to go with it. But, sometimes all you really need are a few Classic Christmas Movies to bring you into the Christmas Spirit! 1. Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
This classic Christmas movie was the first Dr. Seuss book to be adapted into a complete movie and, boy was it a huge hit! More commonly known as ‘The Grinch’, this movie is over a decade and half years old, but still has the ability to make people laugh and cry. Not just that but, thanks to dear little Cindy Lou, we get the perfect glimpse of what Christmas is really all about!
2. Home Alone (1990)
Although an old Christmas movie, it is still a must watch movie for all those staying alone this Christmas! No matter how many times I’ve watched this movie, it has always been as funny and touching as the first time I’ve seen it. Although there are sequels to this movie, it is the first part that remains to be the best of the lot.
This movie is not only funny but, is perfect for the Christmas season as it teaches us how to be a child again and the importance of family, especially during the Christmas season.
3. Unaccompanied Minors (2006)
Being left alone to travel across cities and countries is bad enough as it is but, this classic Christmas movie has children doing this! What makes it worse for these poor kids is that, due to a blizzard, they’re all now stuck in an airport, under strict supervision, on Christmas Eve! Thankfully, five children take it upon themselves to make sure that this Christmas will never be forgotten!
This movie is the perfect combination of joy, love and laughter; once again making it a must watch!Not to forget, but, this is the perfect family movie!
4. The Polar Express (2004)
This animated movie is based on a storybook written by Chris Van Allsburg, in 1985. Sure the graphics are great, and it has Tom Hanks playing the role of the train conductor but, these are not the only reasons why we love this movie.
This movie is perfect for all those children who are just starting to doubt the reality of dear Ol’ St. Nicholas (Santa Claus).The magic of Christmas also lives in the innocence of children. So, if you have a child who is just about coming to that age where they begin to doubt, and you don’t really want to kill the magic for them, then show them this movie. It might just bring back that little magic!
5. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Despite what people might think, this movie is not about Halloween at all. Sure it stars a skeleton, the king of Halloween town but, the movie is all about Christmas! Don’t believe me? Watch it and see for yourself!
I especially encourage all those people obsessed with Halloween to watch this movie. Maybe it will change your mind about which is the bet festival of the year (Christmas, duh!)
6. Elf (2003)
Who doesn’t want to watch a hilarious movie starring Will Ferell as an Elf! Watch this movie to follow ‘Buddy’ on his journey of finding who his real parents are, after spending his whole life believing that he is an Elf!
Although many argue that this movie is not child appropriate, it has been rated ages 7+ viewable.
7. The Family Man (2000)
Poor Jack is dragged away from his wealthy, self-centered life, into an alternate universe where wealth plays no role in his life AND where he is married to his high school sweetheart.
‘The Family Man’ may not be your normal go-to Christmas Movie but, here is why it should be from now! This movie, starring Nicolas Cage, Is the perfect lesson on why family is more important than your work-life.
8. The Holiday (2006)
*Do not watch this movie with your kids*
Two broken-hearted women decide to swap homes for the holiday season and unexpectedly romance in suddenly in the air around them. Watch this movie with your special someone this Christmas season to experience a taste of sorrow, love and laughter.
This is the perfect holiday romance film!
9. The Santa Claus (1994)
Imagine having to take over Santa Clause’s place overnight, after finding out that you accidently killed him! Even better, imagine having to do it while trying to hide the fact that you’re now Santa from everyone you know and love!
This movie is rated a strict PG movie but, is a definite Classic Christmas Movie!

10. Love Actually (2003)
*Do not watch this movie with your kids*
Set during the month before Christmas, follow the lives of eight couples as they deal with their love lives, and figure out how these couples are actually connected to the other!
Although this movie is not actually about Christmas, the Christmas setting makes it good enough to appear in our Classic Christmas Movies 2016 list! I suggest watching this movie at your next sleepover party as it one of the best Holiday movies!
