Grammy Awards 2017 – What Went Down!
The much-celebrated annual Grammy Awards 2017 are famous for a lot of reasons – the glitz, the glamour and the celebrities. It is a night of music, dance, entertainment and (wait for it) – FASHION!
Who can forget JLo’s green Versace number, Kim K’s golden bathrobe and Madonna’s Matador look? Seconding just the Met Gala in terms of quirky styles and bold statements, this year’s outfits were no less in making distinct wardrobe choices. This year was especially known for its post-modern, avant-garde style, with influences ranging from Salvador Dali to Coco Chanel. Seasoned with good music and a lot of political background, celebrities took matters in their own hands and spoke out about political issues gripping the nation.
Sensationalism was the feeling of the night, from the very outfits of the attendees to the speeches by winners. Here is a look at the best outfits that the crème of the entertainment industry flaunted on the night of the 59th Grammy Awards 2017, hosted by James Corden.
The Grammy Awards 2017 Fashion!
Starting off with the Queen Bee, Beyoncé showed off her baby bump and rocked the stage as one the Grammys 2017 perofrmers, with an embellished golden gown and a fitting crown with gold specks radiating all round, with her face embroidered on it. The designer, Peter Dundas, stated to Vogue that the sun rays were inspired by the African Goddess Oshun, and her likeness watching over her unborn twins. Her after-performance outfit, a daring wine red number also left heads turning; the Queen could do no wrong.
The undisputed queen of the 2017 Grammys with Album of the Year, Record of the Year AND Song of the Year, Adele dressed to impress with her olive Givenchy gown. Although it seemed a bit demure for an experimental event like the Grammy’s, she looked elegant and poised in the multi-fabric number which gave more definition to her waist and complimented her skin and hair perfectly. The Swarovski-embellished sandals matched her gown and made her glow.
Ri-Ri became infamous for her hidden (not) hipflask accessory, but she did look stunning in a tangerine crop-top and black ball gown skirt by Armani Privé. The dress billowed down and hugged skin in all the right places, making her look regal as her heavenly brown tresses flowed down. Her accessories were simple, yet stunning. The white detailing gave an edge to an otherwise toned down outfit. She opted for long diamonds and a dazzling smile, which could do no wrong.
4. Jennifer Lopez
This pretty lady certainly didn’t look like anyone’s mama, as she romped down the red carpet in a lavender pastel Ralph and Russo creation, with a deep neck and the signature Angelina leg split. The color surprisingly went pretty well with the carpet at the Grammy Awards 2017, and showed off her figure perfectly. The ruffled neckline seemed a bit unnecessary, but the train made up for it. Her sleek blond hair and sleek metallic clutch complimented the matte pastel perfectly. Safe, but classy seems like the perfect way to describe this look.
5. Celine Dion
The ‘My Heart Will Go On’ crooner seemed to channel her inner JLo as she rocked a green bedazzled Zuhair Murad number which seemed very similar to JLo’s unforgettable Versace dress. The dress boasted of a deep neck, prominent shoulder pads and a high slit, with a prominent bow and buckle. It made her look like a Christmas tree, although a pretty hot one at that. Her slicked back hair and minimal makeup drew more attention to her toned body and prefect chest.
Halsey was definitely one of the daring ones on the carpet on the Grammy’s night, as she strutted down in a Christian Winjants creation of silky dark blue. The outfit consisted of a pair of loose pants and a coat, with nothing underneath. Going boldly commando, she definitely made a statement with her long hooped earrings and bare bosom.
7. Nick Jonas
The ‘Jealous’ singer slayed in Balmain, with a black sequined jacket, a military cut and his trademark swoony eyes. The all-black ensemble did him good and brought out the color of his eyes, and the silver detailing turned an ordinary, drab outfit into something ramp-worthy.

8. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga pulled off an underboob exposé in an Alex Ulichny creation of raunchy black at the Grammy Awards 2017. Her barely there outfit showed off her killer figure, with a jacket that covered only her neck and shoulders, and shiny shorts with metallic detailing. Her thigh-high boots and staggering heels, paired with aviators and bold lips certainly skyrocked this diva’s status to a whole new level of badass-ery.
9. Joy Villa
Singer Joy Villa made a bold statement about politics rather than fashion with her dusty blue gown with ‘Make America Great Again written down one side. The crucial words, previously hidden under a conservative flowing white gown, made their appearance on the red carpet and turned heads immediately, making Joy Villa a trending topic on Twitter soon after.
10. Girl Crush
The aptly titled Girl Crush embraced the oddity of the night clad in what seemed like a combination of gumballs and a walking-talking ball pit, in a flashy skirt completely covered with red, blue, yellow, green and pink balls. She paired it with a pretty pink mermaid top, with aptly placed shells. Her Barbie-blond hair accentuated her doll-like ensemble, and surely turned heads and raised eyebrows. Her humongous ring also drew attention, and inspired a lot of memes online.
11. George Clinton
George Clinton took casual clothing to a whole new level as he arrived for the glamorous night in what looked like a white bathrobe! Pairing the comfy living room outfit with fancy shoes, sunglasses and a gaudy crown embellished with a cross, he definitely became one of the most talked-about people of the night.
12. Cee Lo Green
This singer surely outdid himself in being the golden man of the night as he showed up in a completely gold futuristic robe that made him look part-humanoid/part Ferrero Rocher.
13. Solange Knowles
The talented Solange took inspiration from her sister’s fetish for gold and went metallic in a shimmering gold Gucci one shoulder dress with a gorgeous slit and transparent mules. The color went marvelously with her skin and eccentric hair, and added quirky details to her figure. The pleated gown and Lady Grey earrings made sure that this Knowles sister always shines.
Say what you may, but the Grammy Awards 2017 was an outstanding platform not only for music, but for showcasing one’s individuality and attitude. Some celebrities showed up in outfits that grabbed attention and made them trending topics, while others made bold statements. It was a night to be remembered as a platform for music, art, fashion, opinions and statements alike.
