The moment that we have all been waiting for has finally arrived. Miley Cyrus has done it all, from being a Disney star to the queen of twerking; a goddess to the LGBT community and homeless people and now, she bares her true self for all to see.
We have all watched her grow from a little girl into a confident young woman. But, what we have always failed to see is her true self. She has been praised, shamed and criticized for most of her life by the media. Furthermore, she has followed what she has been told by her publicist – at least until she decided to do her own thing, about a year ago, when she made the brave decision to not employ a publicist.
Growing up as a major Hannah Montana fan, I was quite honestly furious with her whole ‘bad girl’ image that she had begun to portray. It is only now that I realized that we had all judged her on a role that she was playing. If we had to do this to every actor that we ever watched on TV, then Matt LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani from F.r.i.e.n.d.s) ought to be completely dim-witted in reality, and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones) ought to be a Mother of Dragons in reality. Which when you think of it now, is quite silly, right?
Miley Cyrus – Wrecking Ball
This is what we tend to do to many, many celebrities like, Kristen Stewart – Isabella Swan in Twilight, Zac Efron – Troy Bolton in High School Musical, Rupert Grint – Ron Weasley in Harry Potter.
ELLE Interview 2014
Taking a step back in time, it’s quite easy to see how much Miley has grown. In 2014, at the Bangerz show, Miley seemed eager to please but, also kept stating over and over at the interview with ELLE that she didn’t care what people thought. She seemed to be lost but, in all honesty was just experimenting to find her true place in the world. And although she was heavily criticized for her “teddy-bear nightmare”, many people already saw her for what she truly was. As a fan stated – “I love her for everything she stands for. Self-expression, being true to you, growing, and finding yourself.”
ELLE Interview 2015
In 2015, we saw Miley take a stand as a gender activist. After rumors spread that Miley was in a relationship with Stella Maxwell, the Victoria’s Secret model, Miley decided that it was time for her to put all that power and influence to better use, rather than just shake it on stage in a teddy bear costume.
She founded the Happy Hippie Foundation, which is dedicated to help the homeless and the LGBT community. She then took to Instagram where, she keeps her fans updated, using it as a means of publicity. And, also to promote tolerance and self expression of transgender and gender-expansive people, with #InstaPride

ELLE Magazine, October 2016
This October, Miley Cyrus has decided that it is time to talk about who she really is. She has decided to do go to ELLE Magazine and tell them about EVERYTHING. As she put it, “to do something like this where we are really talking, rather than somebody talking at me for five seconds.”
In a two day interview with ELLE’s Amanda FitzSimons, Miley seemed to be candid and quite clear about herself. She spoke of her passions, her future and the many, many problems she faced.
The full edition of Miley’s interview, 2016, can be found exclusively in the October issue of ELLE’s Magazine, which will be available, nationwide on October 20th. I do think it would be interesting to hear Miley Cyrus, as she would like to be known. It would definitely be interesting to know her, as she bares her soul.
