Modernization surgery consists of; craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and the treatment of burns. However modernization surgery purposes is to reconstruct a part of the body or advance its functioning, cosmetic (or aesthetic) surgery purpose is to improve the appearance of it .

While 13.1% was eyelid surgery and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) was fourth at 7.9% followed by rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) at 7.6%.

It was noted by survey that non-surgical techniques conducted by plastic surgeons was higher compared to surgical techniques dazzling on progression in cosmetic surgery innovation and interest of less costly treatments. Out of 12.8% worldwide survey, breast augmentation performed on women below 18 was 2.6%.  Survey indicated an estimated number of plastic surgeons in India to be 2150, making it 5.3% of the global population.

In 2009, 683,160 surgical techniques were done in India and 211,540 non-surgical techniques totalling to 894,700, which sum up to be 5.2 % procedures conducted in these 25 countries.

117,140 cases of liposuction, 109,580 of Breast Augmentation, 60,280 of Rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) and 54,720 of Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) were conducted by Indian surgeons.

“We are seeing a lot of people from the US and the west opting to get their surgeries in India. This is due to less cost and excellent set-up, with good English communication skills compared to other none English speaking countries says Dr Parashar. Various clients from Nigeria, Afghanistan and Iraq were recorded by Indian surgeon to be their patients.

There are over 1500 board certified plastic surgeons compared to 5700 in USA, however the total surgeons in the 25 countries are 30,817.

Overall continent census shows Asia leads with 5,704,277 techniques followed by North America with 4,155,955 and Europe at 3,538,319. “There has been a shift in the perception of beauty with time. In a competitive world people want to look younger and fresher and they are opting for procedures that will take away years from their face,” says Sanjay Parashar, a leading cosmetologist in the country.

The increase rise of India in the list is due to rich folk’s wants to look perfect and different, according to psychologist Sanjay Chugh.

“Such people have a negative self-image. They want to overcome the inferiority complex and since there are options available to do so, they get their features enhance,” he says. “The trend is mainly restricted to metros like Delhi and Mumbai as people have money to spend on such costly treatments,” he adds.

Delhi-based surgeon, Sanjay Haldar says he gets over four calls for consultations daily which results to three to four techniques in a week, and also middle aged people wants to get rid of wrinkles, sagging skin, acne and scars. Calls received to get procedures done to have features like some celebrities and the lips of Angelina Jolie. While most surgical treatments are lifelong doctors say there is no guarantee for changing lifestyles of clients.
